Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Releasing the hold of trauma and distressing memories

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Defined

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps you process trauma and distressing experiences that feel stuck. When something overwhelming happens, the brain can hold onto it in a way that keeps triggering strong emotional reactions or avoidance. EMDR helps those memories settle, so they feel less charged and less disruptive in your everyday life.

How does EMDR help?

EMDR can be especially helpful if you’re carrying the weight of past experiences whether it’s trauma, anxiety, grief, or something harder to name. By processing those memories in a safe, supported way, EMDR can bring real relief. Many clients describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more able to move through life with a deeper sense of calm and resilience.

What to expect with EMDR

In an EMDR session, we’ll start by identifying the experiences that still feel heavy or unsettling. With gentle tools like eye movements, sounds, or tapping, we’ll engage your brain’s natural ability to heal and reprocess. You won’t have to talk through every detail. We’ll create a safe, steady space for your mind and body to let go of what’s been stuck. Many clients begin to feel relief within a few sessions, as the emotional intensity of the memories begins to soften.

“From our very first session, I felt heard, understood, and supported in a way I hadn't experienced before.”
As a 30-year-old navigating the challenges of adulthood, I was feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, self-doubt, and the pressures of balancing work, relationships, and personal growth. Working with Alejandra was a truly transformative experience. Her empathetic and non-judgmental approach created a safe space for me to explore my thoughts and emotions. Through our sessions, I’ve learned practical tools to manage my anxiety, set healthy boundaries, and build a more positive relationship with myself. I’m incredibly grateful for the progress I’ve made!
